چکیده
A high-conversion-efficiency optical parametric chirped-pulse amplifier (OPCPA) with high-energy-stability is demonstrated using lithium triborate (LBO) crystals. Total conversion efficiency of 25% is realised with a net gain of greater than 10. An output energy of ~180mJ at a 2-Hz repetition rate, with a stability of better than 1.5% rms is achieved. The output beam takes the spatial profile of the 20-power super-Gaussian pump beam, whose intensity deviates by less than 7.5% rms over the central 90%. The far-field, whose diameter is near diffraction limited, has a pointing stability of less than one-twelfth of an airy-radius. To the authors’ knowledge this is the first demonstration of an all LBO OPCPA to simultaneously achieve this level of performance.

Contrast enhancements to petawatt lasers using short pulse optical parametric amplifiers and frequency doubling.
This paper describes the integration of a short pulse optical parametric amplifier into the chirped pulse amplification beam lines of the Orion laser facility. This enables Orion to generate petawatt laser pulses at 1054 nm with a nanosecond contrast of >10(10). By combining this with frequency-doubling post compression, we can generate 100 J, 500 fs laser pulses with a nanosecond contrast calc...
متن کاملContrast enhancement in a Ti:sapphire chirped-pulse amplification laser system with a noncollinear femtosecond optical-parametric amplifier.
We experimentally demonstrated the contrast enhancement in a Ti:sapphire chirped-pulse amplification (CPA) laser with a noncollinear femtosecond optical-parametric amplifier. A total gain of 3.4 × 10(4) and pulse energy of 26 μJ were achieved. With the clean high-energy seeding pulse, the contrast ratio of the main amplified laser pulse to the amplified spontaneous emission in the Ti: sapphire ...
متن کاملYb:YAG Innoslab amplifier: efficient high repetition rate subpicosecond pumping system for optical parametric chirped pulse amplification.
We report on a Yb:YAG Innoslab laser amplifier system for generation of subpicsecond high energy pump pulses for optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) at high repetition rates. Pulse energies of up to 20 mJ (at 12.5 kHz) and repetition rates of up to 100 kHz were attained with pulse durations of 830 fs and average power in excess of 200 W. We further investigate the possibility...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Optical Parametric Chirped Pulse Amplification to Design a Petawatt Laser Front End
A numerical model of optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) was developed and used to investigate two designs for the front end of a proposed petawatt laser, which is a very high intensity laser. A petawatt laser is required for fast ignition, a new technique that has the potential to greatly benefit the study of Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) and is being investigated at var...
متن کاملDevelopment of cryogenically-cooled Yb:YLF chirped-pulse amplification laser for pumping few-cycle optical-parametric chirped-pulse amplification
As a pump source for intense few-cycle laser system with optical-parametric chirped-pulse amplification (OPCPA), we have been developing cryogenically-cooled Yb:YLF chirped-pulse amplification laser. So far we have successfully obtained high energy output pulse with 107 mJ of energy from a single-stage regenerative amplifier, which can be compressed to 2.2 ps in duration without pedestal. An ad...
